The men’s competition, played on June 2, was once again very well supported with 83 members taking part.

It was won by Michael Lee Closs with an excellent score of 42 Stableford points, placing him three ahead of Charlie Stammers in the runner-up position.

Meanwhile, the Ladies’ competition – played as a medal format – saw Becky Draper win through with a nett score of 72, followed by Philippa Bridges, who scored 73.

Elsewhere, Stammers, along with Harrison Groucott and Alex Lawrie, represented Diss Golf Club in the Suffolk Junior Team final held at Newton Green, where they lost out to their Haverhill counterparts in the final.

Meanwhile, Diss GC also hosted the Suffolk Ladies County Golf Association Division Three competition, with 37 players representing eight different clubs.

The Stowmarket duo of Patricia Partridge and Pam Willshire finished in first and second place respectively, while Diss’ Liz Speak took third spot thanks to her return of 33 points.

And to round off what was a successful outing for Stowmarket at neighbouring Diss, they also picked up the team award, thanks largely to the performances of Partridge and Willshire.
