Testing day for anglers
The week started in a below-par manner for the seven Diss And District Angling Club members who competed in a match at Tunmore Lakes.
After a difficult day’s fishing, victory went to Ben Wilby with a mixed bag for 11lb 4oz, ahead of Dordy Wilby with 9lb 7oz from peg 15, while just 4lb was enough for Steve Mitchell to take third place.
Wednesday saw eight junior members battle the wind and the rain with Jimmy Ellwood coming out on top with a total of 17lb 3oz from Brett Potter with 14lb 4oz and Brandon Harold was third with 10lb 6oz.
Andrew Mears came out on top at Tunmore Lakes on Saturday to lift the Tony Raven Point’s Cup. Going into the final round, Mears held a two point advantage over Ben Wilby but managed to clinch the title with a winning total of 20lb 2oz.
Second place went to Mears’ father John with 16lb 1oz, including a 10lb carp, while Wilby had to settle for third place with 15lb 2oz.
Elsewhere, despite torrential conditions at Thorpe Abbotts, Richard Crisp managed to net a haul of 43lb 10oz to take victory ahead of Ricky Leggett (40lb) and Jimmy Ellis (33lb 10oz).
