Diss Town got back to winning ways with a 2-0 triumph away against struggling Dereham Town Reserves at Aldiss Park on Saturday.

The early exchanges produced some end-to-end football, but Sam Page took full advantage when he received the ball in space outside the area in the third minute.

A strong run took him into the box where he fired the ball past ex-Diss goalkeeper Matt Powley to give the visitors an early lead.

The Tangerines now had the upper hand, although Dereham did come close to equalising in the 11th minute when the Diss defence failed to clear the ball and were fortunate to see a low shot diverted past the far post.

Ross Potter’s side enjoyed the lion’s share of possession for the rest of the half, but most of the saves Powley had to make were fairly routine.

Diss had two penalty appeals turned down in the final minutes of the first-half as they went into the interval with a slender 1-0 advantage.

The Tangerines continued to be the stronger team after the break, but had to wait until the 59th minute for a clear sight of goal.

Jamie George received the ball in the penalty area and saw Dereham’s Joel Glover and Kuda Nihwaitwa throw their bodies in the way of his shot.

Despite their supremacy, with just a single goal lead there was always a risk that the home side might get a chance to equalise.

Will Sainsbury-Logan took on the Diss defence in the 82nd minute and saw his shot just clear the crossbar.

The Tangerines were able to avoid a nervy finish to the match though as four minutes later they went 2-0 up.

Substitute Callum Olpin played a well-judged pass for George to run onto, who then slipped the ball past Powley to secure the three points.

Diss face a tricky Easter weekend as they host runaway leaders Wivenhoe Town tomorrow (3pm), before visiting second place Great Yarmouth Town on Monday (3pm).

n Debenham LC have now lost five First Division games in a row following two defeats in the space of four days.

They fell to a 3-0 reverse at home to Ely City last Saturday, before Dereham Town Reserves picked up a 2-1 win.

Tomorrow they travel to Leiston Reserves (3pm) and then on Monday play host to Woodbridge Town (3pm).
