THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE

PREMIER DIVISION Whitton United 0

Diss Town 1

Diss Town gave their hopes of securing Premier Division survival a major boost after clinching a vital 1-0 victory away at Whitton United.

The Tangerines started strongly and had early chances to open the scoring but Matt Dixon failed to divert Colin Wines’ delivery goalbound while a host of players failed to convert a dangerous cross from Dale Barrett.

At the other end, Matt Powley was called into action after 17 minutes to palm away a powerful 20-yard strike from Allicion Blake.

The visitors looked dangerous from set pieces and so it proved after 38 minutes as Ben Lewis found himself free to powerfully head home Wines’ corner from the right-hand side.

That momentum continued after the interval as Diss came close to doubling their advantage but Dixon could only fire his low shot agonisingly wide after racing onto a long ball.

The home side finished the game strongly and came to snatching a share of the spoils but the impressive Lewis was on hand to make a last ditch tackle as Chris Williams looked destined to score.

Diss held firm in the final moments to seal the win.
