Diss Town start pre-season friendlies with 2-1 win at Thurlow Nunn League First Division North champions Haverhill Rovers
Garth Good was pleased with the performance that his Diss Town side produced during their opening pre-season friendly of the summer at the weekend.
The Tangerines travelled to face a Haverhill Rovers outfit that ran away with the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North title last season.
Ben Cowling’s men have gone on to strengthen their squad ahead of life back in the Premier Division with some eye-catching additions, yet it was the visiting Tangerines that triumphed 2-1 at The New Croft.
After falling behind early on, goals from Andrew Topping and Oliver Williams secured the win for Good’s side.
“It was a very pleasing result and performance against a very good side,” said Good.
“Haverhill won our league last season convincingly and when you see the players they’ve signed this summer, we knew it was going to be a tough game.
“Probably the most pleasing thing about it was the fact that we had six first-team players unavailable, but the younger lads and some of the new faces really stood up.
“We conceded after one minute and at that point you’re thinking that it’s going to be a long afternoon, but we showed a brilliant response.
“When it comes to friendlies the most important thing is performance and the boys definitely produced a good one.”
