Honours even in T20 clashes
As part of their 275th anniversary celebrations, Stradbroke Cricket Club played two highly entertaining Twenty/20 matches against Suffolk Ladies on Saturday.
Fittingly, both teams picked up a victory to cap a good day of cricket.
Stradbroke won the first game comfortably, posting 150-4.
Matt Wise batted throughout the entirety of the innings, eventually ending with 56 runs alongside his name on the scoreboard.
Progress was a little on the slow side until Liam Smith (37no) helped Wise to add 72 runs in the space of seven overs.
Owen Morgan then removed both Suffolk openers, which virtually decided the outcome.
Suffolk skipper Amanda Polley patiently batted 16 overs for an unbeaten knock of 20 runs, but she could not find anyone to bat long enough with.
By contrast, batting first in the second game, the Ladies looked far more at ease.
The two Sophies, –Harper and Utteridge – added 60 for the second wicket, followed by a hard-hitting score of 18 from Becky Saunders, posting 106-6.
In Stradbroke’s reply, Fergus Morgan (23) set off like a train., but that was soon derailed by 15-year-old Immi Sidhu.
Looking like a high-class prospect for the future and bowling brisk off-cutters, she took an impressive 3-6 from her four overs.
Stradbroke never recovered, falling 14 short, meaning the honours were shared.
* Stradbroke return to Two Counties Championship action tomorrow away at Bury St Edmunds IV (12.30pm).
