Second loss in a row for Stradbroke

It was back-to-back defeats for Stradbroke (93-8) in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division Nine West after they lost by 10 wickets at the hands of Brockley II on Saturday.

Choosing to bat on a pitch that was never malevolent under a baking sun, the hosts never looked like posting a meaningful total. The visiting opener bowling pair of Bill Hill and Liam Grimwood were particularly impressive as their 26 overs yielded just 36 runs conceded.

Only steadfast knocks from Alan Hutchison (25) and Richard Pierce-Saunderson (20no) dragged them past a batting point.

In fairness to Stradbroke, their batting performance was not too bad, it was more credit to the Brockley bowlers for tying them down.

However, Stradbroke were particularly poor in the field as Robert Webb (53no) and Steve Fenner (23no) knocked off the required runs in 10 overs.

After suffering a loss to Lakenheath II last time out, Stradbroke have now dropped down to sixth position in the standings.

They will look to bounce back tomorrow with a quick reverse fixture against Lakenheath’s second string at their Wilby Road base (1pm).

Lakenheath have been in good form so far this term, winning five of their eight encounters to currently hold top spot.
