Stalwarts dominate club race
In only the second race of the 2015 season, the Diss and District Racing Pigeon Club were forced into a ‘holdover’ last weekend, as 295 birds were sent to Eastbourne in East Sussex.
Unfortunately, poor weather on the day, particularly at the race point and off the coast, meant the birds were held overnight for a Sunday race.
The decision was also made to bring the transporter back to Billericay in Essex for a shorter and safer race for the pigeons (returns were still poor ).
The result had a touch of nostalgia about it as three club stalwarts dominated. George Burrows and son James, of Banham, took the first three positions flying 64 miles with a winning velocity of 1,109 yards per minute.
Fellow club veterans Steven Kaschner and Andrew Daniels took fourth and sixth respectively, while Kathy Terry clinched fifth.
