Mendham’s Peter Wright was beaten 10-7 by world number one Michael van Gerwen in the quarter-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Darts Masters last week.

‘Snakebite’ averaged 106.55 in a thrilling encounter at the Dubai Tennis Centre, which saw the Scot look in pole position as he went 7-6 in front.

But van Gerwen rattled off four legs in a row to come from behind to win 10-7, with the victory extending his winning run over Wright to nine games.

The Dutchman’s defence of his Dubai title was unsuccessful though, as Wright’s fellow Scot, and reigning world champion, Gary Anderson beat him 11-9 in the final on Friday.
