Investec Women’s Hockey League Division One South side Harleston Magpies Ladies I keen to add more goals
Harleston Magpies I have made a relatively positive start to life in Investec Women’s Hockey League Division One South – and player-coach Emma Lee-Smith believes they will become even more competitive once they improve in front of goal.
With two wins and a draw from their opening six fixtures, Magpies sit sixth in the 10-team division.
However, they have scored just four goals during those outings – only bottom side St Albans (3) have been less efficient in front of goal.
But with plenty of chances being created, Lee-Smith is hoping that the goals will soon start to stack up.
“We are very happy with the way we are playing,” she said. “Not all the results have gone our way and some of that is down to the fact that we need to be a little bit more clinical.
“We are defending really well and Meg Brown has been brilliant in goal, so we do not have any worries there.
“We are creating so much and if that was the case we would be worried. Hopefully we can rectify things in front of goal over the coming weeks.”
After having a weekend off, Magpies will return to action tomorrow with a home game against third-placed Cambridge City I (1.30pm).
Lee-Smith said: “It is great to be at home because the support there always helps us to lift our game.
“You are never quite sure what to expect from Cambridge City but they have some very good players. We have been training hard and hopefully that pays off.”
