Riches holds nerve to net series title glory

Katie Riches held off stiff competition to clinch the Harleston Junior Angling Club’s Summer Series title in what has been a thrilling competition at Weybread Middle Pit.

In a tight league prior to the final round, Harry Elton started the night four points behind leader Katie Riches with Jack Farrow and Maisy Riches also in the mix for victory.

And with the pressure building, Katie Riches hooked a carp with just minutes to spare before netting her second fish of the night, weighing 14lb 2oz, enough to propel her from last up to second place with a total haul of 21lb 6oz, clinching her third title in as many seasons by a single point.

Elton finished well out in front on the night with a total of 35lb 12oz, including seven carp, to end to the season on a high after struggling early on, pushing him up from fourth in the league to the runners-up position.

Jack Farrow landed two carp weighing 11lb 12oz to finish third on the night and also third in the championship, one point behind Elton, with Maisy Riches completing the top four with two carp at 10lb 15oz which also meant she finished fourth in the league, again one point behind Farrow.
