Reeve desperate to restore festive cheer at Diss Town

Mark Reeve is desperate to restore some festive cheer to Brewers Green Lane after conceding Diss Town’s plight is becoming more concerning.

The Tangerines have been in a charitable mood ahead of the Christmas period, shipping 12 goals, four in each, in their previous three games to leave the basement boys firmly rooted to the foot of the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division table 12 points adrift of safety.

Despite the defensive woes and his own fears, Reeve is adamant his side should be targeting three points from the visit of Thetford Town on Saturday (3pm).

“The concerns are definitely starting to creep in, particularly defensively,” he said.

“We are bottom for a reason and that is because we are shipping too many goals.

“Things have certainly become a bit more tense. We would have liked something from the last match but it wasn’t to be.

“We looked at the Thetford match as our main focus when I came in and that is now even more the case.

“They have progressed well this season and have moved clear of danger but they are still a team we should be expecting to beat.

“My message would be to judge us from now because the upcoming match is one where we should be expected to be fighting for points.”

The manager believes forced continual change in his side has been the root of his side’s recent problems as he continues to search for a winning formula.

However, despite his desire for a settled starting line-up, Reeve has admitted he will be looking to add further reinforcements in the near future as he aims to assemble a squad capable of survival.

“There has been too much of a process of trial and error in recent weeks,” he added.

“However, I still need to find players with the right characters who want to fight for the cause and we are definitely on the lookout for defensive cover.”

Reeve’s cause will not be helped by strikers Matt Waters, Chris Holmes and Kyle Downes all remaining doubtful for the visit of Thetford but Jason Cole could return.
