Quartet help Suffolk to progress

Playing at Eye on Sunday, Suffolk Ladies beat Hertfordshire Ladies in the Bowls England Walker Cup competition by 44 shots to 33.

This is the first time for many years that Suffolk has managed to get through the first round of this national competition.

Two Borough of Eye players, Sally Butcher and Di Stannard, and two from Framlingham Castle, Tracy Johnson and Joanne Rowe were among the squad.

The entertaining match, which at times was neck-and-neck, was watched by a large crowd of spectators from both counties.

The next round of the competition will be on Sunday, July 12.
