Diss Town manager Ross Potter is remaining hopeful of securing a deal to bring midfielder Danny Self back to Brewers Green for the upcoming season.

Self, who was part of Mark Reeve’s Tangerines squad last season, looked set to play his football away from the club following their relegation to the Thurlow Nunn First Division after featuring for higher-league Norwich United against Diss in a pre-season encounter earlier this month.

However, the former Wroxham man has featured in the Tangerines’ last two friendly matches, both 2-1 victories, against Norwich CEYMS on Saturday and Mulbarton Wanderers on Tuesday, and Potter is hopeful of concluding a permanent deal in the near future.

“I am very hopeful he will return to the club, I’d be delighted to bring him back,” he said.

“I have worked with Danny in the past and have known him for 12 years so we have a good relationship. He has played in the previous two matches and so there is a chance he could sign, and at the moment we are still hopeful.

“Having managed him before I know what he is capable of. He would be a massive signing for us.”

Meanwhile, Potter also revealed he may have to trim his 22-man squad ahead of the campaign opener against Dereham Town Reserves on Tuesday, August 11.

“It might be a case of letting a few go,” he added. “We have two more pre-season games to go and so I will have to decide who will be part of the 16 matchday squad.”
