The team had to wait a little longer than normal to have their success confirmed, with this year’s adverse weather meaning the season was extended until May to ensure all matches were completed, rather than a standard finishing date in March.

Nevertheless, Phoenix A triumphed over all before them in the 11-team league – played on the outside courts at Rickinghall Village Hall – racking up a total of 51 points.

Two points further back in second were Swifts, while Pink Panthers in third put together a haul of 47 points.

“It had always been our mission to win this year,” said Phoenix A captain and the league chair Gill Jennings.

“However, with regular players being out with injuries and having to borrow players from our other ‘B’ team all games were really close.

“It was right down to the last game whether we had done enough to secure the win. This in the end was only secured by this last game.”

The South Norfolk Netball League will get its Summer Division under way on Monday, June 4.

Teams within the league are keen to welcome new players and anybody interested should contact gill.jennings17@btinternet.com
