Diss Cricket Club set to hand debut to overseas signing Kadeem Alleyne
Captain Lewis Taylor is backing overseas addition Kadeem Alleyne to be ‘very explosive’ during his stint with Diss Cricket Club.
The all-rounder, who hails from Barbados, has undergone a period of quarantine upon arriving on these shores and is in line to make his debut during tomorrow’s home encounter against North Runcton (12pm).
Alleyne has been particularly impressive in the nets at Rectory Meadow, and Taylor is confident the former Barbados youth international will make an impact in the Norfolk Cricket Alliance Premier Division.
“Kadeem is really excited about being with us and is itching to get out there and play,” said Taylor.
“He’s looked fantastic in the nets. The plan is probably for him to open the bowling with his pace and then bat somewhere in the middle order.
“He’s had a few sessions with us now and it looks like he’s going to be very explosive with the bat and the ball.
“Hopefully he can end up being the difference at certain times.”
Alleyne was in contention to make his first Diss appearance last weekend, but the rain forced the cancellation of the trip to Downham Stow.
That followed on from the week before when the club’s season-opener at home against Norwich was abandoned because of the wet weather.
“It’s been very frustrating for all of us,” added Taylor. “The first game (against Norwich) was set up nicely when it was called off and then last weekend there was no chance of even one ball being bowled.
“Fingers crossed the weather starts to improve because after having no competitive cricket last year, we all just want to get going.”
Also falling victim to the weather last weekend was the match-up between Old Buckenham and Garboldisham.
Tomorrow Old Buckenham will travel to face Fakenham while Garboldisham welcome Norwich to The Langley (both 12pm).
