Otters claim fourth spot in Gala
Diss Otters finished in an excellent fourth place at the County Relay Gala at the UEA Sportspark on Saturday.
City of Norwich were the winners in first place, while West Norfolk and Norwich Swan completed the top three placings at the events.
Despite having nowhere near the strength in depth of the county’s big three clubs, Diss finished ahead of the rest of the field in fourth spot.
The evening’s highlights for the Otters were the two race victories for Grace Greenhalf, Sophia Pickering, Rosie Munnings and Lily-Anne Jones in the 9-10-year-old girls’ freestyle (two minutes and 23.29 seconds) and medley (2:39.62) races.
Following on from the girls’ double gold success were the 13-14-year-old boys team of Max Ashken, Matthew Munnings, Cameron Day and Isaac Bachu.
The team won double bronze in their two events to add to the medal haul for Diss.
Whether it was fighting it out for first place or battling for seventh and eighth, all of the Otters teams performed with credit throughout the evening.
And as many of the swimmers were competing in older age groups, to finish fourth overall was a superb result for the club.
n Diss Otters have seven different squads ranging from the ages of 6-17 as well as an adult squad, giving opportunities to swimmers of various abilities to take part.
