Oates on from to take silver
Colin Oates warmed up for an upcoming Grand Slam event in promising fashion by clinching a silver medal at the British Open held in London.
With the event not carrying any Olympic qualification points, the North Lopham-raised ace moved up a weight to under-73kg and impressed, winning three contests in a row, including defeating the world ranked Italian Marco Maddolini in the semi-final.
The final proved a tense affair against Daniel Williams who trailed throughout the contest until catching Oates with a winning score in the last six seconds of a thrilling bout.
The silver medal was the fourth British Open medal Oates has clinched over a 10-year period.
Kumo Judo Club’s most prolific medal winner returns to action on Sunday for the Grand Slam event in Russia where he will be aiming to secure his place at next year’s Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil.
