North Lopham’s judo star Colin Oates endured another disappointing Tokyo Grand Slam, continuing an unwanted run of not placing in Asia’s most prestigious competition.

The 31-year-old started strongly in Japan, sweeping aside Cesar of Portugal.

But he then went on to lose by three penalties to two against Kengo Takaichi, the Japanese player who went on to get bronze in the under-66kg weight category.

It ended a 2014 which saw Oates win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
