Norwich City fan Edwards Seaman says: Turning to Neil would be a bold and brave decision

After a whirlwind week, first and foremost I would like to thank Neil Adams for the job he has done at Norwich City.

It is a measure of him as a person that he was big enough to resign after Saturday’s horror show at Preston in the FA Cup, in which City failed to even muster a shot on goal against lower division opponents.

One thing I would like to add, Neil wasn’t doing a bad job.

Coming down from the Premier League is always tough, only six of the last 27 teams to come down have gone straight back up and with City in seventh, it was, and still is, possible.

However, it was clear Neil wasn’t getting the best out of his side and him stepping down gives City a better chance.

There is no doubt Adams is a good coach, as he showed with the youth team, but I struggle to see him as a manager in that dressing room, motivating those players.

I have criticised some of his tactical decisions at times this season and ultimately that has cost him results, and now his job.

Going forward, at the time of writing, it seems as if City are going to turn to Alex Neil, player-manager of Hamilton.

A bold, brave statement from the Norwich board, but one I am willing to back.

I hear the usual criticisms that Neil lacks experience, he is the cheap option and is a risk, but isn’t every managerial appointment a risk?

What he has got going for him is hunger, motivation and a momentum of success and that is something I believe can galvanise the City squad and help to get the best out of them.

For me, his biggest challenge — at 33 years old — is earning the respect of the squad, but if he can do that there is no reason he cannot be a success.

Whatever happens, we have come to a critical stage of the season and things need to be resolved quickly ahead of a vital trip to Bournemouth tomorrow or automatic promotion could already be way out of reach.
