It seems like only yesterday that the Wembley party started as City secured an immediate return to the Premier League.
On the day much was made of the top flight experience within the squad and I am pleased Alex Neil has largely kept faith with that tight-knit unit.
What he has done is made smart, sensible additions, with more Premier League experience arriving in the shape of the steely Youssouf Mulumbu, Robbie Brady, Andre Wisdom and of course the returning Graham Dorrans.
And although we still need to add further quality at centre-half, City are in good shape as we prepare to take on Crystal Palace at Carrow Road tomorrow.
In terms of their no fear playing style under Alan Pardew, Palace are a side Neil should aim to replicate.
We were all frustrated at Chris Hughton’s negative approach as we sleepwalked to relegation in 2014, and I have no fear Neil’s City will fall into the same category.
Key to our success will be having a go at teams and getting the likes of Wes Hoolahan, Nathan Redmond and Robbie Brady on the ball in space, so they can use their qualities to create chances for our strikers to strive on.
It is no secret Neil is looking to add extra firepower but I hope the returning Ricky van Wolfswinkel gets a chance to prove his worth after his well-documented struggles.
Whatever the outcome, don’t read too much into tomorrow’s result.
It’s been a staggering 13 years since a City win on the opening day, a 4-0 victory against Grimsby in 2002, and it is only the first hurdle of a long season ahead.
What we must do is create a raucous Carrow Road atmosphere and get behind the boys as we embrace our return to the best league in the world.
One thing is for sure, it certainly feels good to be back.
