Norwich City ready for Premier League opener at Champions League winners Liverpool

A trip to Anfield to face the European champions – the size of Norwich City’s first Premier League assignment couldn’t get much bigger.

Unbeaten on home soil in both of the last two seasons, Liverpool will be brimming with confidence as they begin their latest quest to secure a first title of the Premier League era.

For City, the remit is very different – and the battle for survival will neither be won nor lost on opening night.

Everyone is acutely aware of the talent Jurgen Klopp has at his disposal. From one of the most potent attacking trios in world football, to the threat posed by full-backs Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, there are no weak links in the Liverpool armoury.

Simply put, few away from Norfolk will expect Daniel Farke’s side to do little more than roll over and accept a convincing defeat on Merseyside. But make no mistake, Norwich are not here to make up the numbers.

Since the fixtures were released in June, Farke and his team will have been busy plotting the downfall of their compatriot Klopp – and will genuinely believe, against the odds, they can do it.

Given the opposition, Farke will be keen to remind his players that the pressure is off and encourage them to go out, enjoy themselves and show a global audience what they are capable of.

Because this is a Norwich team still very much at the beginning of its journey.

With youth at the heart, and a style centred on attractive, attacking football, it is a team that will entertain as it continues to learn, grow and mature.

But it is also a group with a steely determination and a never-say-die attitude, who will embrace the underdog status – and be determined to prove the doubters wrong.

Of course there will be testing times – such is the nature of the beast – but as a united force, we stand every chance of thriving in the best league in the world. Bring it on!
