No more excuses for Tangerines manager

Mark Reeve conceded he can have no more excuses for Diss Town’s fortunes as he aims to kick start their revival against some familiar faces.

Since taking the Tangerines’ reins in late November, Reeve has struggled to improve the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division basement boys results picking up just two points from his opening five league fixtures.

But having had the chance to assemble his own squad, bringing in Danny Self, Darren Cox, Connor Doddington, Jason Cole and Stef Gilding, the manager has asked to be judged from here on in starting with a trip Gorleston tomorrow (3pm) in a reunion with former Diss manager Richard Daniels and the man he replaced Mike Derbyshire.

“There can’t be any excuses anymore, this is my squad and I am happy with the majority of what we’ve got,” he said. “My reign really starts now and I want to be judged from here on in.

“It will be good to have a reunion with Richard and I’m sure a lot of the players will enjoy facing Mike.

“It is a big game for both sides and from our point of view only wins are good enough from now on.”

The Tangerines go into tomorrow’s encounter having halted a run of three straight defeats with a thrilling 3-3 derby day draw against rivals Thetford Town.

And while his side still remain rooted to the foot of the table, 11 points adrift of safety having played two games more than their relegation rivals, Reeve believes there were enough signs in their previous outing to bring renewed optimism.

“We got a positive point from being 3-1 down and now we have to push on and look to build upon the result,” he added. “The most pleasing thing is that we showed some real character and fight in the second half and that gives us something to build on.”

n Debenham LC will be aiming to build on the momentum of a 1-0 win over Great Yarmouth Town when they travel to Halstead tomorrow (3pm).

The result left Stuart Reavell’s side third in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, eight points off of top spot.
