Peter Wright endured a devastating final defeat as he let a 5-2 lead slip to hand the title to Kim Huybrechts in Sindelfingen, Germany as the curtain dropped on the PDC European Tour.
Having booked his place in the final following a thrilling 6-5 win over Mensur Suljovic in the previous round, the Mendham-based ace looked set to get his hands on the title in-front of 3,000 German fans.
Finishes of 116 and 161 helped Wright move into a 5-2 lead and within one leg of the title, but Huybrechts produced his best darts with his back to the wall.
A 140 checkout got him back to 5-3, and when Wright agonisingly missed a match-winning shot at double 16, Huyberechts found the same bed to get within one leg.
Worse to follow for the Suffolk star as the Belgian hit an impressive 157 checkout to force a decider, in which a shot at double eight saw him take out 64 for the match and complete the comeback.
