Promising boxer Joe Kerrison has been tipped to fulfil his dream of becoming a professional ahead of his European Schoolboy Championships which started on Saturday.
The Stradbroke High School pupil is one of nine England boxers in Russia.
For Mendham-based welterweight Kerrison, his inclusion in the squad is just reward after winning a National Schoolboy title in May and ahead of his bout coach Colin Stevenson tipped ‘the best youngster he has seen in 30 years’ for the 65kg title in what he believes is the start of a memorable career.
“Joe has a great chance of winning the title, he has real star quality,” said Stevenson, who coaches at Lowestoft Amateur Boxing Club.
“He is definitely one to watch in the future, I’m expecting great things from him.
“I’ve been coaching for 30-odd-years and Joe is right up there with the best youngsters I’ve seen, if not the best.
“I’ve had national champions in the past and Joe has the same outstanding qualities and capabilities.
“He is focused on what he wants to achieve which is a dream of becoming a professional and I think he can. After that, the sky is the limit.”
