Attleborough Boxing Club put on an evening of knockout action as they staged an open show in Thetford for the first time in at least two decades.
Following the huge success of their two annual home shows, the club proved once again proved they can pack a punch with a sell-out show in front of 300 spectators, who were given a glimpse of Attleborough’s talented young boxers.
Of those, Tom Cash and Lewis Nagle kicked off the night, showing great potential in their skills bouts, before Thetford-based boxers Charlie Connaughton and Kyle McKhenie as well as Tyler Bolingbroke got the crowd going as they fought tough competition in very close bouts, but went on to lose on close split decisions.
Lewis Bolingbroke fought well to win his bout over Colchester’s Blake Marshall, while Marc Riley fought a courageous tough bout against Cillian Spillane of the south of Ireland, who dominated in the last rounds to claim the verdict.
There was an impressive performance from Morgan Flinn, who out-powered his opponent, giving him a standing eight count in the first round, before eventually stopping his opponent in the third round.
The crowd were soon back on their feet as local fighters Taylor Dean and Milo Clay took to the ring and both claimed unanimous points wins.
Dean was put through his paces by a tough opponent in Ireland’s Keane Mahoney, while Clay overcame Welwyn Garden City-based boxer Mitchell Davey, dominating throughout to clinch the decision.
There was upset for Connor Holloway, who struggled against the hard-hitting Thomas Upsall, who dominated throughout to claim the unanimous points decision, but the night ended on a high as Sergio Gugillotta proved too strong for Norwich City’s Josh Bywater as he claimed a split decision win.
Attleborough Boxing Club’s head coach Jon Dennis said: “I am proud of all of our boxers achievements tonight.
“Amateur boxing is about learning, improving and enjoying the sport.
“It is superb to see so much support for the club in Thetford. We are proud to host our great friends Trojan Boxing Club who flew over from southern Ireland for the show and thankful to the other 15 clubs that travelled from all over the UK to be with us this evening.
“The rest of Team Attleborough have been here all evening helping and supporting their team-mates. It has been a great night and the crowd has been superb.”
