Harleston Town boss Leon Moore ready to face former club Debenham LC in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North

While he does not want the fixture to be about him, Harleston Town boss Leon Moore is hoping that his knowledge of Debenham LC will help his side to get the upper hand during tomorrow’s derby clash (3pm).

Having taken over from Mark Benterman in September 2017 and subsequently leading Debenham to a seventh-placed finish in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, Moore opted to step down from his position in late December.

A few weeks later he linked up with title-chasing Harleston and has overseen five wins from eight outings in all competitions.

Their next fixture pits them against Moore’s former club, who will visit the Recreation Ground on the back of collecting seven points from the last nine available.

“It will be a bit strange coming up against Debenham so soon after leaving but it is game myself and the team are relishing,” said Moore.

“They have a few new lads but there are still a lot of players there who I signed, so hopefully I know their strengths and weaknesses.

“I will be looking to pass that knowledge on to our lads in the dressing room but this is not about me, it is about us getting another three points in our quest to win the title.”

Last weekend’s 5-0 win over Wisbech St Mary has opened up a seven-point gap at the summit to second-placed Mulbarton Wanderers, who have a game in hand.

Swaffham Town in third are also in contention and would actually be one point better off than Harleston were they to win their three extra fixtures.

However, rather than focus on what their rivals are doing, Moore has insisted Harleston will only be concentrating on themselves.

“We are getting closer and every game is a must win now,” he added.

“We have opened up a bit of a gap to Mulbarton and it does look like Swaffham might be the ones chasing us down, but we cannot be concerned with that.

“It is all about putting three points on the board – that’s all we can do.”
