Diss Ladies target consolidation upon return to Empresa Norfolk Women’s Hockey League Premier Division

Ahead of their return to the Empresa Norfolk Women’s Hockey League Premier Division tomorrow, Diss Ladies I are looking for a season of consolidation.

After a couple of stints in the top flight in 2009/10 and 2011/12, Diss had spent seven straight campaigns within the Division One set-up.

However, after a number of top five finishes they finally secured promotion back to the Premier Division last term as champions, finishing two points clear of runners-up Reepham Ladies I.

Diss’ previous tenures in the Premier Division lasted just 12 months, but team manager Lindsay Cates is hoping for more stability this time around.

“It is going to be a tough season at this level. All we can do is the best we can but hopefully we can finish in at least mid-table,” she said.

“We have had a few years out of the division and so it will take a bit of adjusting and getting used to it again.

“We have lost a couple of players and got a couple of injuries, but we are still going to have a strong squad available.

“Everyone is really excited and training has been great. We are hopeful of having a good season.”

Diss will get their season under way tomorrow away at UEA Ladies II (11.30am).

Their first home match – against East Coast Ladies II – will take place on September 28 (10.30am), followed by a run of four away matches, which includes a derby versus neighbouring Harleston Magpies IV on Saturday, October 19.
