Make-or-break time as Diss look to save their campaign
Diss Town manager Mark Reeve has conceded it is now make-or-break time for his side to save their seemingly doomed season.
With seven games remaining, the Tangerines find themselves still perched precariously in the relegation zone, where they sit 12 points adrift of Wivenhoe Town and safety.
A 2-0 defeat at home to high-flying Stanway Rovers on Saturday extended the Brewers Green Lane outfit’s winless run to four matches in all competitions. And Reeve has warned his side have to halt that run immediately, starting with a trip to 12th placed Whitton United tomorrow (3pm).
“It is definitely make-or-break time for us now,” he said.
“We have had four really tough games in a row but we have to forget about them, leave them in the past and soldier on.
“We need to start picking up points in every game. I know that might be difficult but it has got to the point where we have to set the standard now for the rest of the season.
“Whitton will be competitive but maybe their attention will be on the cup competition they are still in.
“Either way, I don’t fear any of the teams in mid-table because I look at us as a club that should be on a par with them.
“It is starting to look unlikely that we will get out of the bottom three and there is a gap emerging, but we have to believe.
“We don’t know whether someone will get a reprieve from the league but we can’t think about that, we need to get our standards right.
“Three points would put us in a good place to build on and if we could manage back-to-back wins that would put us in a favourable position, we just have to start winning.”
Captain Jacob Brown and defender Ben Lewis were forced off with injury in the defeat to Stanway, while Kyle Downes was dismissed for an off-the-ball incident in the first half.
However, all three could be set to feature tomorrow with Downes’ suspension not starting for 14 days, but Reeve revealed Chris Greenslade will be unavailable.
