Harleston Magpies seeking place at Super 6s Indoor Finals Day ahead of clashes with likes of Surbiton, East Grinstead and Repton
Harleston Magpies Women’s team are eyeing up a place at Super 6s Indoor Finals Day.
In what was their first campaign in the Super 6s Indoor Championships Women's Premier Division for nine years 12 months ago, Magpies finished in a credible sixth place up against the country’s most established clubs.
The competition format will see teams play eight matches over the next two weekends in Repton, with the top four advancing through to Finals Day at the Derby Arena on January 26.
And Magpies team manager John Adams believes that there is no reason why his side cannot be in the running for one of those spots.
He said: “Last year was our first year at the level and we did really well. We went into the second weekend with a top four place in our hands but unfortunately we couldn’t win both games.
“It definitely was a building block going into this year. A lot of the girls had never experienced the competition and there was a lot of nerves going into it. But the team still showed that they can beat some of the best teams in the country and that has given them a lot of belief.
“We’ve prepared well and a lot of effort has gone into the preparation so I think finishing in the top four is a very realistic target.”
One of last year’s guest players – Great Britain’s Georgie Gardens – will be absent this time around due to a dislocated shoulder, while former Magpies youth player Hollie Dring-Richardson has been drafted in.
Magpies, who are sponsored by Emirates Logistics Services, start their campaign tomorrow with games against Surbiton and Sutton, while on Sunday they face Slough and Holcombe.
The following weekend will begin with clashes versus East Grinstead and Buckingham before the pool phase concludes on January 12 with a pair of encounters against hosts Repton and Guildford.
East Grinstead go into this year’s competition as the defending champions.
