Harleston Magpies indoor teams preparing to start their National League Division One campaigns

Harleston Magpies Men’s Indoor team will be looking to cause ‘an upset or two’ when they open up their National League Division One campaign this weekend.

Magpies will head to Nottingham tomorrow when they take on Ipswich (11am) and former national champions Reading (3pm), before Sunday throws up clashes against Olton & WW (9am) and Bowdon (2pm).

It is a tournament packed full of big names, but having finished fourth last year and with England Under-21 international Archie Winter – as well as ex-England Under-21 player Carl Sitch – to call upon, confidence is high in the Magpies camp.

Coach Tim Whiteman said: “Indoor hockey is a real highlight of the calendar and provides the group with some of the highest quality hockey of the team.

“This season’s preparation has been superb, with the team committing to extra sessions with a focus on intensity and tactical gameplay.

“As ever, I’m excited by what this group could achieve and who knows, we may cause an upset or two.”

Meanwhile, the Ladies – boosted by the return of Emma Lee-Smith – open up at Bristol University against Chelmsford (12.30pm) and Surbiton (5.30pm), followed by Sunday clashes with Cambridge City (12pm) and the University of Birmingham (4pm).

The talented Sarah Brook has also returned to the Magpies team for the indoor season and they will also be hoping that Lauren Rowe is able to continue her excellent goalscoring record so far this season.
