Lucinda named in GB squad
Garboldisham’s Lucinda Gooderham will be gunning for European Championship glory after being selected among the Great Britain rowing squad.
The 30-year-old, who has previously represented Great Britain in the women’s quadruple sculls, has been selected as part of the women’s eight alongside Leander Club team-mates Katie Greves, Louise Reeve and Olivia Carnegie-Brown, as well as Donna Etiebet, Jessica Eddie, Zoe Lee, Zoe De Toledo and Rosamund Bradbury for the crucial event in Poznan, Poland later this month.
The championships, taking place from May 29-31, start an important international season that concludes in September with the World Championships in Aiguebelette, France – an event which doubles as a qualification regatta for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
As a team, Great Britain won eight medals, including two golds, at the 2014 European Championships which took place in Belgrade, Serbia and performance director Sir David Tanner is well aware of the importance of the upcoming competition as he sets his sights on further medal success.
“This is an Olympic qualifying year and other nations will be stepping up,” he said.
“The depth of competition will be stronger and, against that background, we are looking at honing a squad that gives us the best possible chance of qualifying all our boats for Rio.
“The European Championships are an important event in their own right, and everyone selected will also want to add medals and titles there.”
