Long journey worthwhile as Rock takes the plaudits

It proved a long journey well made for Alexandra Rock as the youngster won the July Junior Tournament at Stonham Barns Golf Centre.

The 11-year-old, who plays her golf in Prague and has an 18 handicap, travelled over 1,000 miles from the Czech Republic to compete in the competition.

And it proved a worthy journey as her impressive score of 36 was enough for overall victory ahead of Stowmarket Golf Club’s 11-year-old Rio Everitt, who finished with a score of 38.

The under-10 age category was won by Sawyer Osbourn, a 10 year-old from Lakenheath Golf Club with the best score of the day, a 33 (four over par), while the under-eight age category was won by six year-old Finlay Brock with an excellent score of 41.

n The Stonham Barns junior events are open to any juniors from ages four to 15. More details of all their junior events can be found at www.stonhambarnsgolf.co.uk

n The club is also taking part in the SJG Golf Roots Initiative, which offers free junior golf sessions across Suffolk.

These sessions, which will be held on Thursday, August 13 and are free to all boys and girls aged eight to 14, aim to encourage youngsters into the game.
