Ladies reach the last eight
Diss Golf Club Ladies’ side remains on course for a second ever Stearn Trophy triumph following last week’s first-round victory at the expense of their Stowmarket counterparts.
Diss, who last got their hands on the trophy in 1998, earlier in the competition had got the better of Rookery Park to set up the Stowmarket tie.
In Stowmarket they were up against a team with a rich history in the tournament, which included three wins in a row between 2004 and 2006.
However, a Diss squad comprising of Jenny Chamberlin, Becky Draper, Jane Izod, Philippa Bridges, Steph Mendham (non-playing match captain), Val Mendham and Sarah Gotts managed to come out on top, eventually winning through 2-1 in the clash played at Southwold Golf Club.
Now, Diss will take on Bungay in the quarter-finals at Felixstowe Golf Club on Monday, August 6.
The winners of that tie will advance through to the semi-finals against the victors in the tie between Seckford and Woodbridge, which is played on the course at Diss.
The other quarter-finals see Newton Green take on Southwold at Seckford, while Southwold is the venue for the encounter between the Royal Worlington and Felixstowe.
The Stearn Trophy is a competition played as a foursomes format and each round is played over 36 holes on neutral courses.
