Stonham Barns Golf Park hosts first Junior Competition in five years

Stonham Barns Golf Park attracted 43 players to its first Junior Golf competition in five years.

Organised by the combination of Tony Dobson of Stonham Barns Golf Park and Rob Pritchard of the Suffolk Golf Academy, the youngsters were split across five different age categories.

The day was full of impressive performances, none more so than 12-year-old Charlie Whinney, who recorded the best score of the tournament with 37.

Meanwhile, despite being one of the youngest players in the field,
eight-year-old Ralph Neal did well with a score of 42 – one of the best rounds on the day.

Dobson said: “This is our first event after a five-year break and we’ve been amazed by the level of interest and the enthusiasm from all the youngsters.

“Many had never played a full round before, and seeing their smiles out there made it all worthwhile.”

As well as the success for Whinney and Neal, who triumphed in the Under-12 and Under-8 sections respectively, Josh Lucas came out on top in the 6+ with his score of 40.

Top honours in the Under-10s went to Bobby Cross, while Sam Maxted was the leading performer in the Under-15s.
