Ipswich Town column: We’re fortunate to be witnessing special times at Portman Road

Honestly, you really do run out of superlatives to describe this group sometimes.

Last week I suggested I thought Ipswich Town should and would win the game against a struggling Wednesday, despite their recent upturn in form.

I did think they may come to Portman Road and try to ‘out football’ Ipswich Town which, as we know, is very hard to do and ultimately that proved to be the case.

Cardiff away was disappointing. It was a sickener and it required a big bounce back at the weekend. Thankfully we got that, and thankfully we always get that.

Genuinely, we are going to be talking about this manager, this group and this regime for years to come.

After so many years of despair and hurt, we truly have a club to be so very proud of again, whatever happens.

Now of course, me saying this is all well and good, but ultimately there is a job to do: promotion.

Yes, at the start of the season, nobody expected us to be here. I didn’t, the media didn’t, and potentially even Kieran McKenna didn’t. But we’re here now and simply have to grab it with both hands.

An international break allows us time to reflect on what has been a crazy schedule. Town have hit some serious form and take away the heartbreak in Cardiff and the last six weeks or so have been truly astonishing.

So let’s take time to regroup, refresh and get ready for promises to be a fascinating end to the season.

Blackburn away is next, followed by a huge fixture with Southampton at Portman Road before attention then turns to ‘that one’ at Carrow Road.

Can we do it? Yes. Will we? Well, we’re doing everything right to give ourselves a serious chance.
