Ipswich Town column: Routine and professional performance at Millwall is exactly what Kieran McKena’s side needed
London called and Ipswich answered as Kieran McKenna's men served up a routine and professional 4-0 victory in the capital. It was exactly what the doctor ordered.
Town headed to The Den craving a win. Any other result wouldn't cut it, which left some fans wondering if we could see a repeat of the last Valentine’s Day, where Town were part of that miserable 0-0 draw away at Bristol Rovers.
Thankfully, we didn't get that and it was an evening full of plusses; plus four goals and most importantly, plus three points.
After riding out an early storm, once we scored the first the game looked done and dusted from there.
One player I'm especially pleased for is Nathan Broadhead. I think it's fair to say 'Broady' has struggled in parts of this season, but last night he was back to his silky self.
The Welshman is such an important player for Ipswich, with his ability to take the ball in tight areas and drive us forward. So having him on-form is a huge positive.
Broady's renaissance could largely be down to the presence of Kieffer Moore and I think it's really shown how much Town have missed that big target man since George Hirst's injury in December.
'Big Kieff' has been excellent and not only his goals, but his link-up play has been superb, which is only going to help the likes of Broadhead, Conor Chaplin and Omari Hutchinson – who shone once again – pick up the pieces behind him.
A great night and I must congratulate Ali Al-Hamadi on his first goal for the club.
I was excited by this signing and the early signs suggest we should be. Quick, strong, powerful, mixed in with a great touch and clever movement. We've got a player there and I couldn't be happier to see him get off the mark.
Swansea away is next and another chance for Town to claim all three points. Play like we did Wednesday and I think we'll do just that. Up the Town.
