Ipswich Town column: Manager Kieran McKenna starting to get best out of his players

I was a little too young to remember the last time Ipswich Town won a Premier League game, so Sunday was not only a special day, but quite an emotional one.

What a victory; certainly a deserved one. As far as away performances go, you can't get much better than that.

To be honest, I think we've been good in our last three games without the points to show for it.

We should've got something at Brentford, deserved to beat Leicester and have now followed that up with a victory away at top-four chasing Tottenham Hotspur. Two years ago it was Cheltenham, now it's Tottenham. Crazy.

I think that'll be a big win for us in the grand scheme of things. The longer that wait for a victory goes on, the more difficult it becomes.

So getting it out the way allows us to relax a bit and keep playing our football – not that Kieran McKenna would have panicked that much anyway.

It was another special day in what continues to be a special journey for this football club, and I'm sure that won't be the last either.

One player I want to give credit to is Ben Johnson. Like others, Ben hasn't enjoyed the greatest of starts to his Town career.

I must admit after West Ham away, I really wasn't sure on what he was. But I think we're now seeing exactly why he's played the amount of games in the Premier League he has, and we’re also beginning to see the work Kieran McKenna has done with him; kudos to you Ben.

Like I said, I do think we've seen an improvement in recent weeks and although the victories haven't been flowing, the performances have been there.

Up next? Manchester United. The world will be watching. Portman Road will be bouncing and we'll be sure to give new gaffer Rúben Amorim a nice Ipswich welcome.

I fancy us. Tottenham are better than United and we've just beaten them, so why can't we go out and put a show on at home? Bring it on.
