Ipswich Town's top six curse may be over but Paul Lambert is still not the right man

Well hang on a minute, this feels strange; we’ve actually beaten somebody in the top six!?

Tuesday night’s surprising, but very well deserved, victory in Yorkshire was a cracking away performance and all of a sudden has made things look a little rosier.

It does make you wonder, where has that type of performance been all season? With Town now resolute, clever and on Tuesday’s evidence, half decent going forward.

That’s four clean sheets in the last five and it’s frustrating as clearly we do have the minerals to be up there in this division and to be honest, it’s a disgrace they aren’t already.

All of you reading this will know I am by no means a fan of Mr Lambert, I’d still cheer if he was to be sacked today and I think we saw a glimpse of ‘what could be’ under a different manager on Tuesday night.

I’ve said it before but I truly do believe we have a squad more than capable of getting out of this division, I just don’t believe in the manager to use it properly.

That said, the tiresome ‘top six hoodoo’ has finally come to an end and Town now have the chance to go and put things right against both Doncaster and Accrington Stanley, who are above them.

I’m not going to jump the gun too much, but win both of those and we would then be ‘right in the mix’ as Lambert keeps referring to and now wouldn’t be a bad time find some form.

I’ll end the column this week with the news that I will be moving on to pastures new and that there’ll be another Town fan in the hot-seat. Since I started writing this in 2018, it’s pretty much all gone down hill at Portman Road, so I’m hoping your new ITFC columnist can bring some better luck!

Thank you for all your emails and messages and I hope to see you all safely back at Portman Road in the future (hopefully without Lambert!) Stay safe and take care of yourselves. Uppa Town.
