Ipswich Town column: If we want to be a Premier League team we need to see off Sheffield Wednesday at Portman Road

Saturday felt a little 'Charlton away', didn't it? And although I'll always say proceedings at The Valley in October 2022 were the worst, to give away three points in five bonkers minutes in Wales at Cardiff City feels equally as bad.

A proper sickener, made even worse by the results of those around us.

'That's football.’ Kieran McKenna said, and I'm inclined to agree with him.

Thankfully, with this group, those sort of afternoons don't happen too often and their track record would suggest that they are one of the best when it comes to bouncing back from disappointment.

It sets us up nicely for this weekend and a visit of relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday.

I've seen a lot this week about how 'it will be a tough game' and 'Wednesday won't make it easy', which of course is correct. But equally at the same time, if we want to be a Premier League club next season then a victory at home to 23rd-placed Wednesday has to be expected.

Obviously, I imagine it to be a tough one, they all are. And as we've seen from QPR and Rotherham this season, it hasn't always been plain sailing for Town when facing those sides scrapping for their lives.

I do expect us to win though and actually think the more free-flowing style of football played by Danny Röhl's men could suit us better.

We never were going to win every game, but with nine to go and things so tight at the summit, it does feel we may have to get at least six victories out of those nine, to be in with a shout.

Town's April looks tough, just like the April of 2023 did too, and we all know how that turned out. But nothing less than a victory tomorrow has to be the aim.

I'm confident we’ll do just that. Up the Town.
