Joel Windsor on taking over as interim manager at Debenham LC in the Thurlow Nunn League

Interim manager Joel Windsor wants to bring back the ‘feel-good factor’ to Debenham LC during his time in charge of the club.

The 27-year-old was handed a temporary role as manager of the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North club last week, following the departure of former boss Guy Hayes.

Windsor, who had been assistant to Hayes since August of last year, is keen to turn his interim position into a permanent one and believes the squad he has taken on is capable of climbing up the table.

“When the chairman Chris (Conway) offered me the role I was happy to have a go and I want to take this opportunity with both hands,” Windsor said.

“It’s not an easy job, I know that, but I firmly believe I can bring the feel-good factor back at Debenham.

“The squad I’ve inherited has a lot of talent within it. I said from the start to the boys what I want and what I expect from them. It’s about the small things in the culture of the club.

“Haysey (Guy Hayes) did a fantastic job for five years here and he was young when he took over as first-team manager, so Chris is not fazed by your age, it’s about who you are and what you can bring to the table.”

The new interim boss took his Debenham side to Holland for his first game on Saturday and were beaten 6-1, with Matt Aldis equalising for the Hornets inside the opening 15 minutes before the hosts scored five more times without reply.

“It looks like a bit of a drubbing when you come away and you’ve conceded six, but their were lots of positives to take,” Windsor said.

“I was pleased with the reaction I got from the boys. What we needed was everyone pulling in the same direction and that’s what I got.

“The boys worked their socks off and Holland scored four of their goals from set pieces, so we know what we need to work on.”

Windsor handed a debut to goalkeeper Dan Stobbart, who has joined from Walsham-le-Willows, while front men Danny Thrower (Whitton United) and Elliot Ballard (Walsham) have both departed.

Framlingham Town returned to the top of the First Division North table after beating Needham Market Under-23s 4-0 on Saturday.

Joe Berry, Niki Shopov, James Ross and Shane Hambling all found the target for the Castlemen, who make the trip to Swaffham Town (14th) today (3pm).

Diss Town finished their four-game road trip with defeats to Cornard United (2-1 on Friday) and Great Yarmouth Town (1-0 on Wednesday).

Spencer Cawcutt was on target for the Tangerines in their defeat at Cornard, with Diss now without a game this weekend.
