Debenham LC’s inconsistent form in the league continued on Saturday after they fell to a disappointing 3-0 defeat away at Haverhill Borough in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division.

Having beaten Leiston Reserves 6-0 a week previously, the Hornets would have been confident on building on momentum but it was not to be as the home side broke the deadlock after the visitors failed to clear a corner.

Debenham responded as Ben Golding saw a goal-bound effort cleared off the line but it was Borough who scored again immediately after as a lightning counter attack resulted in Steve Fenner being beaten with ease as the home side doubled their advantage.

At the other end Kevin Barker spurned a good opportunity with his shot lacking conviction as the home side kept their two-goal advantage intact at the break.

The visitors enjoyed the lion’s share of possession after the interval but continued to struggle to find a breakthrough with Goulding heading over and Shaun Thorrold shooting wide.

And to compound their misery, Borough added a third as another quick counter attack resulted in a simple tap in to wrap up proceedings and the points for the home side.
