Hornets to reveal new chairman
Debenham LC will be announcing the identity of the club’s new chairman at an AGM at the club this month, writes Alex Moss.
Kevin Snell has stepped down as chairman of the Thurlow Nunn League First Division club, while vice chairman Pip Alden has also announced his departure.
The Hornets will be holding an AGM at Friends Meadow on Monday, June 13 (8pm), with Snell’s successor to be confirmed.
“I’ve just got too much on to carry on,” Alden said. “The club have got fresh blood coming in and there is a lot of things coming up to be excited about.”
Debenham have announced this week that they will be opting out of playing their first game of the 2016-17 Thurlow Nunn League season on July 30.
The FA ratified the start dates for all of its competitions last Friday, with the Thurlow Nunn League’s opening day pencilled in for an earlier start.
A tweet on the Hornets’ official Twitter account on Monday stated: ‘Pre season plans all over the place due to the announcement of season start date. For the record we will be requesting not to play in July.’
With the July 30 start date selected in order for clubs to play a competitive game before the Emirates FA Cup extra preliminary round on August 7, some clubs are expected to request a later start to their own league campaigns so that their pre-season preparations are not disrupted.
Diss Town chairman Richard Upson is set to hold talks with the club’s manager Ross Potter to decide whether they also opt out from playing their first league game on July 30.
“It’s a discussion we’ll have with Ross. It’s left up to the management to deal with the players. We’ll also look at the preparations he has already for pre-season.”
n Departing Debenham LC vice chairman Pip Alden is cycling 300 miles in three days next week to raise funds for the club.
