Campion 20 Diss 27
Diss fought off a full assault of their line for the last 20 minutes of this evenly and fully committed encounter to maintain their unbeaten start.
A period of concerted Diss pressure led to a Philip Lelievre penalty, and on 30 minutes new signing Sean McClure scored his first try to put Diss into a deserved lead.
On 35 minutes McClure scored a superb second try, converted by Lelievre. With only two minutes remaining of, John Laurie’s solo effort put the Norfolk side 20-5 up at half-time and in control.
Campion fought back in the second half, Diss giving away too many penalties. Campion converted two, Tim Groom received a second yellow card, and Campion scored a try to make it 20-13.
On 70 minutes McClure completed his hat-trick, but Campion completely dominated, scoring a converted try on 73 minutes.
Following intense pressure Jamie Burroughs was yellow carded and Diss had to see the last few moments out with only 13 men on the field.
A brave and totally committed team performance although aspects of discipline will need to be addressed before the home fixture against Saffron Walden on Saturday.
