Harleston Town make perfect start to new Thurlow Nunn League First Division North season

Harleston Town joint boss Nicky Howell has been pleased with the manner in which his side has started life back in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North.

Six wins from as many outings at the beginning of 2021/22 has left Harleston top of the table heading into tomorrow’s home encounter against Leiston Reserves (3pm).

Yet it is how some of those victories have been achieved – coming from behind with late winners – that has particularly impressed Howell.

He said: “Six out of six is a perfect record but it has not been as easy as it perhaps looks.

“We’ve had to dig in at times, scored some late winners and had to come from behind, like we did at Diss a couple of weeks ago.

“Even at Yarmouth last weekend (2-1 win), we didn’t play that well and looked sluggish at times.

“It’s a cliché, but being able to win when you’re not playing well is a big thing and it says a lot about the squad we have.”

Howell has also been happy with how his summer signings – particularly the younger ones – have integrated into the side.

He added: “Unfortunately a couple of the younger lads have recently picked up injuries but Josh Durham is only 16 and has played every minute for us, which speaks volumes of his performances.

“We’ve got a nice blend of youth and experience now and it’s gelling together well.

“There’s a good togetherness and we feel it’s moving in the right direction.”
