Diss Golf Club celebrates a year to remember at presentation evening
Golfers at Diss recently came together to celebrate what has been a successful year for the club, both for its members and also at county level.
It was the Ladies Section that showed the way during 2018 as they triumphed at two separate county events.
They clinched the Stearn title and then backed that up by coming out on top in the Senior Jubilee Shield.
Elsewhere, it was a very successful year for club member James Biggs.
His major success came in the Lagonda Trophy, which is an event previously won by former world number ones Lee Westwood and Luke Donald.
Biggs also scooped the County Championship, County Matchplay Championship and County Open Championship titles.
And he followed that up in the County Foursomes, teaming up with Chris Bartrum to win the competition for the fourth year in a row.
Diss’ youngsters also suggested that the club has a bright future, as a team made up of Spencer Humphrey-Moore, Charlie Stammers, Harrison Grocott and Alex Laurie finished runners-up at the Suffolk Golf Union Team Championship.
Meanwhile, in terms of the main prizes at the presentation evening, Bartrum won the Men’s Club Championship with a 36-hole total gross score of 152.
As for Kerry Enever, she was victorious in both the Ladies Scratch and Handicap tournaments.
In total the club handed out a total of 90 prizes, and are hoping that next year sees a number of new members join to compete for the trophies.
