Framlingham College student Will Lamprell won a gold medal on Sunday in the National Athletics Championships at Sheffield.

The 14-year-old, who was competing for Ipswich Harriers Club, threw an impressive 14.72m in the shot put event to not only record a new personal distance, but also finish on top of the podium by a convincing margin.

Nick Gandy, director of sport at Framlingham College said: “Will is one of our most talented all-round athletes and this recognition is due reward for his diligence and commitment to the discipline.

As well as excelling at track and field, he has also made considerable contributions for the College in the swimming pool and on the rugby pitch, where he was part of the unbeaten U14 XV last term and is a member of the Northampton Saints DPP squad.

“We are exceptionally proud of his achievements.”

This success follows on from 2018 when the Year 9 student returned from the Tuesday’s National Prep School Athletics Track and Field Championships in Birmingham with gold (high jump) and silver (shot put) medals.
