THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE

FIRST DIVISION

Haverhill Borough 2 Debenham LC 1

A magnificent long distance volley from player-manager Martin Westcott proved decisive as Borough continued their impressive form in the closing days of the season.

Westcott had only been on the pitch for two minutes when he hit the 77th minute volley from an angle some 25-yards and it flew into the top corner over the goalkeeper, who was powerless to stop it.

Borough had gone ahead in the 17th minute when Jonny Milne headed home his fourth goal in as many games from Rory Bone’s corner.

Debenham carried little goal threat until the closing stages when they first hit the foot of the post before pulling a goal back in the 86th minute when Chris Brock headed home following a scramble at a corner.

The win was Borough’s fourth in their last five matches and took them up into eighth place.

A draw in their final league match at Woodbridge Town tomorrow would guarantee Borough finish the season in at least eighth place.
