THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE FIRST DIVISION
Debenham LC 0
Swaffham Town 3
Debenham LC fell short of causing a shock against table-topping Swaffham Town, who cruised to comfortable 3-0 victory to claim the points.
In an even opening to proceedings, Hornets’ goalkeeper Steve Fenner had to be alert to beat away a powerful early effort, while at the other end Jack Seccombe tested the visiting custodian after a good move involving Shaun Thorrold.
But it was Swaffham who opened the scoring shortly after as a corner from the left-hand side was rifled in to put the Peddlers ahead.
That pressure continued and the home side found themselves 2-0 down before the break as another dangerous delivery from a corner resulted in a Debenham defender inadvertently directing the ball past Fenner and into the net.
Debehnham responded well and came close to reducing the deficit before half-time but Seccombe’s effort came crashing back off the post as Swaffham kept hold of their two-goal lead.
The second-half proved a frustrating 45 minutes for Debenham who dictated much of the play without finding a breakthrough as Swaffham added a third to seal the win.
