Hornets crash back down to earth at Memorial Field

Downham Town 4

Debenham LC’s improved run of form came to an end with a second defeat of the season against Norfolk outfit Downham Town.

The Hornets broke the deadlock through new signing David Lampshire, but it was Downham striker Luke Plumb who claimed all the glory after that.

Lampshire capitalised on a poor header by home right-back Nathan Cross to sprint forward and dispatch the ball into an unguarded net.

Downham equalised in the 24th minute when a ball up the left side found Plumb, who skipped past Chris Brock and sent a low drive into the net past Sam Chilvers.

However, it was against the run of play when Plumb scored again, his shot deflecting past Chilvers before Debenham’s task was made even tougher a minute before the break when Brock inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net.

A long throw-in from Tom Hardwick was cleared away in the 55th minute, leaving Downham’s Matthew Calvert to run for 50 yards before squaring the ball from the right side of the box into the centre where Plumb was on hand to plant the ball into the net.

Tom Hardwick unleashed a stinging shot from 20 yards that smacked against the crossbar and Nathan Vincent twice hit the post, but there was no way back for Debenham.
